La Palma artistic residence provides support to artists of all disciplines from all over the world, by offering them space for a maximum of 7 weeks to create in an open and free environment for artistic exploration and production. This space is Casa Massieu, a house built in the 17th century by Nicol\u00e1s Massieu Van Dalle and his wife \u00c1ngela de Monteverde y Ponte, which is located in Tazacorte, a town near the coast in the northwest of the island of La Palma.<\/p>\n

In the 15th century, La Palma joined the Atlantic sugar routes and the port of Tazacorte was a strategic point. Numerous families from the Netherlands settled on the island, attracted by the sugar trade. They imported works of art in exchange for sugar and Malvas\u00eda wine, thus leaving an extraordinary legacy of Flanders on the island throughout the 16th and 17th centuries.
\nWe are launching the first La Palma artistic residency, in honour of these merchants, welcoming artists from the Netherlands so that they can create their pieces, sharing their creations with the islanders.<\/p>\n

Casa Massieu has recently been refurbished as an artistic residence, to make a space where artists can imagine new forms of dialogue in the context of art and culture. We welcome artists and creative thinkers with a diverse mix of disciplines, backgrounds and ages, who are interested in working in an interdisciplinary environment and who are open to the idea of collaboration.<\/p>\n

Each artist has their own apartment located a few meters from the Massieu house. All apartments have free Wi-Fi, a kitchenette and living area, an outdoor pool with excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean. Each artist, in turn, has their own individual studio at La Casa Massieu as well as materials to develop their work.<\/p>\n

2022 program application dates<\/strong>
\nLa Palma artistic residency is held biannually and welcomes 4 artists at a time, the first residency being held in April and the second in November, each lasting for 7 weeks.
\nFor residencies beginning in April, the deadline is January 5th. Our application portal opens on November 1st. Notification of the results is sent by email before March 15th.
